Miguel’s abuelito moved to Providence in the 1980s and started Rhode Island’s first Mexican small business. Miguel has proudly carried on that pioneering legacy as the first Mexican American to serve on the Providence City Council.

Miguel has always stood with working people. His career has been rooted in service—from working directly with Providence’s unhoused community at Better Lives, to his current job with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. He has brought that same commitment to City Hall, where he has championed working-class residents of Manton and Mt. Pleasant.

Despite being one of the youngest councilors in Providence history, Miguel quickly earned the trust of his colleagues. In just one term, he became chair of the powerful committee that oversees the city budget, using that role to invest in our schools, streets, public safety, and youth programming.

Miguel believes that no matter where you come from or what you have, you deserve to live with dignity, freedom, and opportunity. That’s why he’s running for a second term on the City Council.
